Who Do You Buy From
When considering who to buy a pool heater from and where to buy it, it is always a good idea to make sure you are working with certified installers and factory reps. If you focus on cost to save money, and who does not want to do that, you may be putting your warranty at risk.
If a non-certified installer puts your pool heater in this often invalidates the warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions
- I have an old system should I upgrade or use the same type of pool heater I have?
- How long should a pool heater last?
- What type of system should I put in?
These are all common questions and concerns that customers have.
Upgrade or replace the current system
Today this is a very common question, because in our local area and everywhere, people are buying older homes or they are looking to renovate their existing homes.
If there is an existing heater, and it is working, is it doing the job you would like it too?
Sometimes with a small repair older systems can be put back in working order and you can save the cost of a new system and get a few more years of value out of the old pool heating system.
But pool heaters due tend to rust and fail and sometimes there is nothing that can be done. If you are looking to replace or upgrade we can review your system, at no cost, so that you have the best information to make a decision.
If it is not or you would like to know if there is something that is more efficient we are happy to review what you have and help you to decide if keeping the current pool heating system is the right approach. Contact Us For A Free Estimate
How long does a pool heater last
This depends on a number of factors. The first is the environment the system is in. In our area, our biggest concern is salt water. If you’re near the ocean things outside will corrode faster and this will reduce the lifespan of your pool heater.
Other factors that can affect your pool heater’s lifespan are the manufacturer, check the warranty to get a sense of how well the system was constructed.
The type of pool heating system also has an impact on the system’s service life. In general:
- Gas pool heaters last for 5 to 6 years.
- Heat pumps will go for 7 to 9 years
- Solar will last the longest lasting from 11 to 25 years.
There are three basic types of pool heaters.
- A pool heat pump
- A gas pool heater
- Solar pool heaters
What Type of System Should I Install
This is a good question with no simple answer. It depends on a number of factors including lifestyle, expense, and environment. These are personal choices but below are some of the pros and cons for each of the systems and this can be a jumping-off point for more research.
Pool Heat Pump
The pool heat pump is the most efficient and cost-effective way to heat the pool over a wide range of temperatures. It is electric so you never have to worry about getting gas, you just turn it on and it is heating.
It transfers the heat from the air to heat the water and works just like the heat pump for the house.
A big positive to heat pumps is you can set the temperature and forget about it. When you jump into the pool after a long day you can be comfortable that the water will be comfortable.
But the negative for a pool heat pump is, just like the house as temperatures go below 50 degrees, they start to become less efficient, and begin to rely more on resistance heating. Resistance heating uses a lot of electricity and tends to be much more expensive.
In addition to being less efficient as temperatures drop, it also takes longer to heat the pool using a pool heat pump.
In summary, the pool heat pump is a good solution for where we live in central Florida as the temperatures stay in the range where the heat pump is most efficient, and they can keep the pool at a comfortable temperature without costing a fortune. You can set and forget and the water stays at the right temperature.
Gas Pool Heaters
The gas pool heater is a solid alternative to the heat pump but just like the pool heat pump, it has some positive and negative points.
A pool gas heater does one thing really well and that is heating the pool. The downside is that it uses gas to do this. To get your pool to the desired temperature, it may use a lot of gas. This is can be expensive, and troublesome if you have to get a tank refilled when you use it up.
But on the plus side, a gas pool heater can heat a pool faster than any other type and it can also deal with the coldest temperatures.
This is where lifestyle and environmental considerations come into play. In Central Florida, our temperatures rarely drop below 50, and if it does it only lasts for a few weeks. In this environment, heat pumps tend to do very well except for those low-temperature spikes. If your goal is to keep the pool at a comfortable temperature the majority of the time then adding the heat pump is the right solution.
If, on the other hand, what you prefer is to have the heater available if you want to jump in, but you don’t want to waste the energy when your not using it, then the gas pool heater may be the better option. If you have a spa, and just want to heat the spa, this is where the gas pool heater really shines.
Spa Heater
Many of our customers like the idea of just heating the spa. A gas pool heater is a perfect solution for heating just the spa. It can heat the spa rapidly and shut off when you’re done. For most spas, it takes about 15 minutes from cold to hot. This is great if you’re looking to relax with a bottle of whatever when you get home. You can come in turn it on and by the time you’ve changed the spa is hot and waiting for you.
Solar Pool Heaters
Just like pool heat pumps and pool gas heaters, solar pool heaters have their positives and negatives.
The first consideration to get the most from a pool solar heater is the environment, and Central Florida is a great environment for solar pool heaters. The sun is out the majority of the year, and strong enough to produce good heat that can be transferred to the pool.
The upside is it is free, yea! No energy cost, except for running the pump (minimal). The downside is it only heats well when the sun is out. Solar panels will still collect heat on cloudy days they just don’t do it as well.
A major concern for solar is the environment you will install them in. First the more solar panels you can put on the more heat you can generate and the more control you’ll have.
Second, location, location, location, if you do not have a place that has good access to the sun then solar is not a great option.
There are some things that can be done to make solar a very affordable option for heating the pool. You can add liquid blankets to help hold the heat in, and put up wind blocks to prevent air from blowing across the surface. Another option is setting the solar for maximum heat transfer as the
