The pool resurfacing process
How to Know It’s Time to Resurface Your Pool
Your pool will usually “tell you” when the surface is wearing out.
Florida sun, heavy rain, and years of chemistry swings (especially low LSI levels) gradually break down plaster, quartz, and pebble finishes.
If you’re seeing any of the signs below, a resurfacing is almost always the right move.
Rough or Sandpaper Feel
If the steps or walls feel scratchy or abrasive, that’s usually from etching or scale buildup can be caused by water chemistry or the surface starting to fail
A smooth pool shouldn’t feel like sandpaper.
Stains, Discoloration & Chalking
Dark spots, streaks, or a white powder that rubs off on your hand (“chalking”) mean your finish is breaking down at the cement layer
Cracks
Hairline cracks are common signs of surface wear, but deeper cracks or peeling plaster (spalling) signal delamination and require professional resurfacing
Pealing and Flaking
Hollow Sounds When Tapped
Pieces of the finish are flaking off, and if you tap the plaster and it sounds hollow.
This means the bond between the finish and the gunite shell has failed — meaning the finish must be removed and replaced

Why Homeowners Trust Us With Their Pool Resurfacing
Resurfacing your pool is a big investment — and the quality of the work determines whether your new surface lasts 5 years or 25.
We don’t cut corners. We follow the same resurfacing science, shell prep standards, and NPC startup procedures used by manufacturers and industry engineers
Here’s what makes our resurface work stand out.
Florida-Focused Water Chemistry Expertise
We manage your chemistry from Day 1 through Day 28 so your new surface cures strong and stays smooth
Safer, Stronger Prep
we make sure you have the perfect foundation for long-term adhesion. By using hydro-blasting to remove the old finish cleanly, we get it all offf.
Industry-Required 80-Mil Bond Coat Application
Most resurfacing failures happen when companies apply thin or inconsistent bond coats. We follow the engineering standard:
Finish Installation Done the Right Way
Correct troweling technique Proper aggregate exposure (water wash or controlled acid) Immediate neutralization after exposure
Full NPC 28-Day Startup Included
Most resurfacing failures happen when companies apply thin or inconsistent bond coats. We follow the engineering standard:
Local, DBPR Licensed, & Trusted in Florida
We understand Florida pool issues because we maintain pools here every day. Your resurfacing is done the right way from begining to end technicians who care about doing it right
Your pool doesn’t have to stay rough, faded, or stained.
With proper prep, and finish installation, even heavily worn surfaces can look brand new again — and stay that way for years

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my pool actually needs resurfacing?
Most pools show clear signs when the finish is failing: roughness, stains, chalking, cracks, peeling spots, or hollow-sounding areas. These issues come from finish breakdown, delamination, or water chemistry imbalance (especially low LSI)
How long does pool resurfacing take?
Most residential resurfacing projects take 5–7 days for the physical work, depending on repairs, weather, and finish type.
After that, your new surface goes through a 28-day curing period with specific water chemistry requirements
What’s the difference between resurfacing and replastering?
They’re often used interchangeably.
Resurfacing includes full shell prep, hydro-blasting, crack repair, bond coat, and installing any finish (plaster, quartz, pebble, polished).
Replastering usually means applying a new plaster-only finish — but still requires the same technical prep to prevent delamination
How long will my new finish last?
Average lifespan (with proper care):
- Plaster: 5–10 years
- Quartz: 12–18 years
- Pebble: 15–25+ years
- Polished aggregate: 10+ years
Finish lifespan is directly linked to water balance and chemical management
What is the bond coat and why does it matter?
The bond coat is a polymer-modified cement layer that “glues” the new finish to the pool shell.
Industry standard: 80 mil thickness with exact mix ratios to prevent delamination
Can you resurface over a failing or hollow finish?
No — and no reputable company will. Any loose, hollow, or delaminated material must be removed. Applying new plaster on top of compromised material causes immediate failure
Can I swim during the 28-day startup?
You can after 3-5 days but it is not recommended. As the pool goes through its curing process an unusual amount of chemicals will be added, and these can be very iritating to the skin.
Why can’t I use my salt system right away?
Salt systems must remain off for 28 days (sometimes up to 6 weeks) because salt in freshly curing plaster can cause pitting, spalling, or weakened surface structure
Will you help with the startup after resurfacing?
Yes — we handle the full NPC 28-day startup, including twice-daily brushing, chemistry balancing, controlled calcium introduction, and post-fill guidance
Do you fix tile or coping during resurfacing?
We fix tiles, coping and can refinish the entire deck
Rough spots, discoloration, cracks, or peeling are signs your finish is failing.
Resurfacing stops the damage
Strengthens the surface, and brings your pool back to a like-new, long-lasting shine.
With proper shell prep, a true 80-mil bond coat, and a professionally managed NPC 28-day startup, your new finish cures harder, resists damage, and delivers a dramatically longer lifespan.
